The Social Anxiety Waltz

I could not dance their dance,
so I leaned aside on the wall,
and listened to their melodies
as they mumbled throughout the hall.

I could not dance their dance,
for there was no partner for me there,
so instead I watched the tides of people
while still the music blared.

I could not dance their dance,
for I did not know the song,
so instead I wrote lyrics for the melodies,
like those of poems and prose.

I could not dance their dance,
so as song floated through the air
I toured the sidelines nervously,
waltzing around their stares. ©
